Monthly Wrap-Up: July Wrap-Up and Crocheting Adventures

Well, July went by so faster it didn’t feel like it happened at all. How is everyone’s summer going? (Let me know on my most recent Instagram post!) My summer is going great so far! I’ve been reading a lot of great books, having great inspiration for both of my novels, and spending time with family! (At the cost of most of me being as red as a lobster right now. Hopefully, the sunburns fade away soon…)

Here’s the list of books I read in July:

–        Dream On by Angie Hockman

–        Cold, Cold Bones by Kathy Reichs

–        The Many Daughters of Afong Moy by Jamie Ford

–        Cryptid Club by Sarah Anderson

–        Everything is Okay by Debbie Tung

–        Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas

–        Towers of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

–        Long Story Short by Serena Kaylor

–        Blood Like Magic by Liselle Sambury

–        The Dating Plan by Sara Desai

I had a great time reading all of the books on this list. Some of them took me longer than predicted so I’ve got a few to push to next month, but I’m still on a great schedule to get ahead in August.

The Many Daughters of Afong Moy is my favourite book from July. It was surprising and intriguing, keeping me interested until the final page. I didn’t want it to end – I wanted to learn more and more about all these incredible women and their lives. It all came together in a carefully beautiful way in the end, bringing a satisfying end to this crazy novel. More of my thoughts are in my review at https://www.litandleta.ca/home/letas-book-review-the-many-daughters-of-afong-moy-by-jamie-ford.

Of all the books I read, Dream On was my least favourite. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t have a wow factor to it and in the end, it felt like any other rom-com. My full review is at https://www.litandleta.ca/home/letas-book-review-dream-on-by-angie-hockman.

I also did the tandem read for Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn this month. It took so long, but it was so much fun! My review of both the novels and the tandem read is at https://www.litandleta.ca/home/letas-book-review-empire-of-storms-and-tower-of-dawn-by-sarah-j-maas.

I wrote less than a thousand words in my novel this month, but I had SO MANY EPIPHANIES. I had two random thoughts while crocheting that made everything in my novel that wasn’t quite working go CLICK. I can’t wait to have the time to get going on writing those amazing ideas down. There was even a day this month when I had some ideas about my old novel, which is the first one I started working on. I think I’ll be able to write that one before too long as well. I hope I can return in August and tell you that I’ve written a whole bunch of something.

I almost forgot to add this in! I’ve been crocheting like a mad women to hopefully sell some flower shaped coasters at a market in August! If you want to see any of them, I now post updates over on my Instagram when I get a bunch done. They’re so cute!

That’s all for July!
