Monthly Wrap-Up: January 2022, Reading, and Writing

How the heck is January already done and over with? It feels like it’s only been a week since Christmas…

Even so, I did accomplish quite a bit throughout the month. A few days ago, I began thinking about the number of books I read each month last year and realized that I was on track to be on par with last January. I read nine books last year, and just like I thought, I got nine done this January too. So, here’s what I read this month:

–        Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

–        A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas (reread)

–        The Bedroom Experiment by Kendall Ryan

–        King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

–        Serendipity edited by Marissa Meyer

–        Sunreach by Brandon Sanderson

–        From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

–        Anton by Brenda Rothert

–        The Girl with Many Names by S. Knight (Review)

Most of these books were on my TBR for the month and the rest were books I genuinely wanted to read and made sure to allow myself to. I’m working on just reading whatever works for me this year. Also! I got my Kobo this month and it did exactly what I wanted it to: I’ve been reading more because reading on it is so easy. I can read in bed now, without the light on so my partner can still sleep. It’s perfect!

A Court of Silver Flames and From Blood and Ash are tied for my favourites this month. Nesta from ACoSF is becoming my favourite character from that series because of the depth added to her character in that story. I never thought I would read From Blood and Ash, but it’s such a perfect guilty pleasure read that it sucked me in completely. I enjoyed these two reads the most, for sure.

My least favourite was The Girl with Many Names, unfortunately. Since I’m reading this book to review for a publication, I won’t say anything else about it here. Check it out on Kindle if you’re interested!

I didn’t set myself a specific writing goal for January, but I wanted to get somewhere. And oh boy, did I ever. I finished plotting my novel, scene by scene, on January 10th. It freaked me out and I haven’t worked on it much since then, but it’s huge that I got that far. It means that February is a new and fresh month where I can write to my heart’s content.

January is over and here comes February!
