December is finally over, and with it, this strange year of 2020. So today, I’m going to talk about how December went for me in terms of reading. Normally, there would be a Monthly TBR post to compare this list to so you can see what I wanted to read versus what I read. For the sake of this post, here is a list of the books I put on my TBR for December:
– A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir
– Heartless by Marissa Meyer
– The Wicked King by Holly Black
– The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
– Our Darkest Night ARC by Jennifer Robson
– Thunder Through My Veins by Gregory Scofield
– Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
– Caraval by Stephanie Garber
– The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
I haven’t had a month of reading nine entire books in 2020, but I wanted to end the year on a high note. I read nine books, but not exactly on this list.
– Heartless by Marissa Meyer
– The Wicked King by Holly Black
– The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
– How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
– Thunder Through My Veins by Gregory Scofield
– Our Darkest Night ARC by Jennifer Robson
– Caraval by Stephanie Garber
– Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
– Father-Ish by Clint Edwards
Watch out in the new year for reviews of some of these books. I wanted to talk about the two books I put on my TBR and didn’t read.
I have recommended The Night Circus several times, ever since my best friend from ninth grade read it and loved it. I found my copy at a thrift store and was excited to have the chance to read it. However, it never sucked me in. I’ve read the first few pages twice now and I didn’t feel the want to continue. It made me very disappointed, but it taught me something that I wanted to share with all of you: it’s okay to put down the book you’re struggling with. You don’t have to finish every book you start, and it’s okay to pick it up later and try again. I had to do this with three books in the last four months (the other two are The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and Glass Sword). Because I was willing to put these books down and pick up others, I avoided three cases of the reading slumps.
The other book I wanted to read but didn’t was A Reaper at the Gates, but not for the same reason. This series is phenomenal, and I cannot wait to finish it. But I didn’t want to read it without having the next and final book, A Sky Beyond the Storm, in my house and waiting. And up here in Canada, postal services have been struggling throughout December. A Sky Beyond the Storm didn’t get to my house until this week. So, I held off on A Reaper at the Gates until I could binge-read both in the new year.
In other months, here is where I would talk about any audiobooks or eBooks that I read during the month, but I don’t use those formats often and I didn’t at all in December.
I made and posted four blog posts in December, two of which were reviews of books I read: Caraval and Heartless.
There are cosmic plans for Lit&Leta this year, 2021. I’m hoping that all of you will come along with me here on Lit&Leta, over on Instagram, and on TikTok, where I’ve started making videos about my books and reading updates. I’m going to use that platform as a place to not only expand the content I can give you here but to help my anxiety and become more comfortable online.
That’s all for December! Thank you all for reading along. I hope that you’ll continue to read in 2021, and I hope that together we can find others who share a passion for reading and writing. Here’s to 2021 and all the hope that it holds!
